SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalyst for hydrogen ortho-para-conversion reaction, a method for its preparation, and can find application in production of liquid cryogenic para-hydrogen. Catalyst for ortho-para conversion of hydrogen based on hematite α-Fe₂O₃, which is a cylindrical granule of size d=3±0.2 mm, with a total pore volume of 0.23–0.25 cm³/g, a specific surface area of 100–150 m²/g and average pore diameter of 6.0–7.0 nm, with a bulk density of 1.2–1.4 g/cm³ with mechanical crushing strength not lower than 20 kg/cm². Method for producing a granular catalyst is based on extrusion molding of a paste obtained by mixing an available industrial yellow iron oxide pigment of grade J-1 and a solution of iron nitrate, followed by drying and heat treatment of the molded granules at temperatures of 110 and 300 °C respectively. Invention also relates to a process for conducting an ortho-para-hydrogen conversion process, which consists in passing hydrogen in ortho-modification through a fixed catalyst bed.

EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing catalytic activity, reducing time and resource costs of preparing the catalyst.
