FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Magnetic resonance apparatus comprises a body portion, comprising a cavity having first and second ends and one opening situated at one of the first and second end, a cavity defining a longitudinal axis extending between the first and second ends, a corner zone located between the first and second ends and around the cavity and configured to pass a radiation beam, one main magnet for forming the main magnetic field, a cylindrical shimming element forming a cylinder of uniform thickness around the cavity extending between opposite edges along the length of the longitudinal axis of the cavity and overlapping the length of the corner zone, a plurality of discrete shimming elements disposed between the cylindrical shimming element and the first or second end, a cylindrical shimming element and discrete shimming elements are configured to improve the uniformity of the main magnetic field in the cavity.
EFFECT: technical result is the improvement of image quality.
