SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metrology, in particular to devices for estimating the dimensions of a room. Apparatus includes a sound receiver fixing an acoustic response, a peak detector configured to detect a set of peaks present in the acoustic response, the information storage means comprises a set of peak profiles with associated room size data, and the estimator determines the estimation of the room dimensions from the associated room size data and by comparing the peak set with the peak profiles. Also, the device includes a search engine, information extraction means, an evaluation generator. Search means is arranged to estimate the distance for each set of peaks and frequencies and select the peaking profile, and is also able to calculate the likelihood parameter for each profile. In this case, each profile contains a set of probability values for finding the peak value on a given frequency range having an upper frequency of not more than 400 Hz.
EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the accuracy of measurements, a reduction in computational complexity, a reduction in the consumption of resources.
