FIELD: defectoscopy.

SUBSTANCE: using for non-destructive testing of integrity of oil tanks and other products by method of directed acoustic waves. Summary of Invention consists in that simultaneously or sequentially in the bottom and side walls of the reservoir direct transverse and longitudinal ultrasonic waves that carry information about the presence of defects in the article under investigation. Apparatus feature for method implementation is the ability to switch direction of vector of vibrational displacements of generated ultrasonic waves and possibility of moving acoustic system over surface of test tank without changing quality of dry acoustic contact of piezoelectric transducers with reservoir surface.

EFFECT: expansion of operational capabilities of method and apparatus by allowing simultaneous or sequential monitoring of bottom and side wall of tank, improving quality of acoustic dry contact of piezoelectric transducers with controlled surface of reservoir, as well as possibility of changing controlled zone of reservoir by means of positioning device while maintaining quality of acoustic dry contact of piezoelectric transducers with surface of reservoir.
