SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for distributing banknotes. Method comprises: collecting data on the order and corresponding denominations of banknotes from a plurality of mixed banknote containers, wherein banknotes of a plurality of denominations are stored in mixed banknote containers and are retrieved or stored as a stack; collecting data on the number and denominations of banknotes from a plurality of containers for separate banknotes, wherein banknotes of only one denomination are stored in containers for separate banknotes; collecting data on the current sum for the distribution of banknotes; obtaining the result of distributing banknotes in accordance with predetermined rules for the distribution of banknotes and the sum for the distribution of banknotes, wherein the result of distributing banknotes registers a corresponding number of banknotes issued from each mixed banknote container and a corresponding number of banknotes issued from each container for separate banknotes, so that the combined denomination of the issued banknotes is equal to the sum for the distribution of banknotes; and issuing banknotes in accordance with the results of the distribution of banknotes.
