FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electroslag remelting and can be used in the smelting of solid and hollow ingots from structural boron-containing steels for the manufacture of hexahedral pipes for the storage of spent nuclear fuel. Flux contains in mass%: aluminum oxide 12–20, calcium fluoride 35–40, calcium oxide 38–43, titanium dioxide 4–8 and sodium fluoride 4-8.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to create a flux with a melting temperature not exceeding 1,200 °C, which is stable to a temperature of 1,600 °C, provides the possibility of smelting ingots by method of electroslag remelting of increased length while ensuring the high quality of the ingot surface, as well as increasing the uniformity of the chemical composition of highly active components of the ingot from boron-containing steels, the quality of the structure and the density of the smelted ingot.
