SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vehicle drive. Drive unit comprises an energy converter including an intermediate circuit configured to be connected on the direct current side to first inverter and on the alternating current side to second inverter. First inverter is connected to the motor and to the intermediate circuit. Second inverter is connected to the intermediate circuit and to the work machine. Second inverter controls the work machine as an engine or as a generator. There is also a connection to the energy store. Switching unit is connected to the current converter and is configured to operate in the first or second mode of operation. Drive unit contains a battery charging unit for energy. Battery is charged by the charging unit when the switching unit is in the second operating mode. Switching unit is connected to the energy converter with connection to the mains.

EFFECT: increased reliability of engine starting.
