FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and chemistry of surfactants, namely to process for preparation of N-cocoyl sarcosinates of the formula below, where R is the residues of coconut oil fatty acids containing from 6 to 22 carbon atoms which are biodegradable foaming agents and are used in soft, “green” cosmetic and detergent compositions. Method comprises reacting sodium salt of sarcosine with the methyl esters of coconut fatty acids of the following formula, where R is as defined above, in a low molecular weight polyol medium at a temperature of from 100 to 180°C is the addition of an aqueous solution of hydroxide of at least one alkali metal to the mixture of the sodium salt of sarcosine and methyl fatty acid ester as a catalyst to maintain a pH of more than 13. Process is characterized in that the catalyst is added throughout the process, the methyl esters of the fatty acids of the coconut oil are used in a molar ratio with the sodium salt of sarcosine from 0.8:1 to 1:1, and sodium salt of sarcosine is obtained by the interaction of sarcosine and sodium hydroxide at a molar ratio of 1:1.01 to 1:1.2. , .
EFFECT: proposed method is economical, environmentally friendly and allows to obtain N-cocoyl sarcosinates with high yield and purity with practically complete conversion of the reagents to the product.
