FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to the field of ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the compositions and methods for producing a high temperature magnesia flux used in an electric steelmaking furnace. Magnesian flux contains, mass%: MgO is not less than 70.00; C 4.00–12.00; SiO2 up to 3.00; Al2O3 up to 5.00; Fe2O3 up to 2.00; Cr2O3 3.00–8.00; CaO is the rest. Method comprises: charging the starting materials in a predetermined ratio to obtain a charge mixture containing magnesium, aluminum, iron, calcium, silicon and chromium oxides and a carbonaceous material, and granulation of the resulting mixture, while the raw materials use fused waste of refractory materials, and the granulation is carried out until fractions of a size of 0.0–40.00 mm are obtained, after which it is sieved to a process fraction of 5.0–40.00 mm, with fractions smaller than 5.00 mm briquetted.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the stabilization of slag foam guidance, as well as to improve the process of effective stable garbage formation in the furnace.
