FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method of steel making in an arc-type electric steel melting furnace includes charging a metal charge and slag forming materials, heating and melting them, performing oxidative refining by blowing oxygen bath with oxygen with slag foaming, feeding magnesia material into the furnace, tapping with leaving part of metal and slag in the furnace, magnesium hydroxide-containing mineral of brucite is used as magnesian material, which is fed after tapping of part of slag of metal refining period and/or at the end of melting before beginning of metal pouring into a ladle. The amount of magnesia material introduced into the furnace is 1-10 kg/t of steel.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the resistance of the refractory lining to the entire height of the electric furnace, including the lining of arch, reduce consumption of electric energy and carbon-containing materials in steel making, and promotes reduction of nitrogen content in steel.
