FIELD: biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry, in particular to a tomato plant for use in increasing the production of tomatoes, comprising one or more plant cells, in which the sequence of the mitochondrial endogenous malate dehydrogenase (mMDH) gene is modified by insertion and / or deletion such that, the activity of any mMDH protein, expressed from a modified gene, decreases, and also to its part. Also disclosed is a method for obtaining a tomato plant for use in increasing tomato yield, including the introduction of a pair of nucleases with "zinc finger" (ZFN) domains into the cell of a tomato plant, so that the mMDH gene is modified in the plant cell.
EFFECT: invention allows to effectively increase the production of tomatoes.
