FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the carbonylation of dimethyl ether with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a reaction product - methyl acetate, wherein the carbonylation process is carried out at a temperature of 240 to 320°C, in the presence of hydrogen, in a molar ratio of the amount of hydrogen to the amount of carbon monoxide greater than 1, and the catalyst is a zeolite derived from a synthesis mixture containing at least one organic structure directing agent.
EFFECT: invention also relates to a method for improving the performance of a zeolite catalyst in a process of carbonylating dimethyl ether with carbon monoxide.
