SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for oligomerisation of ethylene, a catalyst composition used in oligomerisation, as well as a metal ligand used in the present catalyst composition. Method comprises contacting the catalyst composition with gas phase ethylene and performing oligomerisation. Catalyst composition comprises (a) a chromium compound, (b) a metalated PNPN-H compound containing a metalated ligand of formula PNPN-M, where M is Li, Mg, Na, K or Al and (c) an activator or cocatalyst and (d) an ammonium or phosphonium salt.
EFFECT: process for oligomerisation of ethylene using a catalyst composition containing a metalated ligand enables to reduce the rate of formation of long chain by-products such as wax and polymer.
