SUBSTANCE: invention relates to valve industry and can be used in the production, operation and maintenance of wedge gate valves (WGV), used as a shut-off valve work environment with high-pressure and high temperature on the pipelines of the technological systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs), thermal power plants (TPPs), as well as in main oil and gas pipelines in normal operation systems and in safety-related systems. To improve manufacturability of the manufacturing and repair, to improve reliability of the operation, to reduce the weight and dimensions of the valve plug of wedge gate valve(WGV), while maintaining and increasing the level of tightness at the contact points of the sealing surfaces (SS) of the wedge disks and the case, the valve plug of WGV is made in the form of a wedge formed by two disks with sealing surfaces and a ball-and-socket hinge (SH) located between the discs, and with the mean of swivel joint of the discs to each other, made in the form of two upper and lower ball-and-socket hinge-shaped I-beam keys arranged with a gap in the T-shaped grooves in the discs, with the possibility of disc movement relative to each other on the SH. WGV contains the case with an inclined SS, the valve plug in the form of wedge, formed by two disks with SS and SH located between the discs, and the mean for swivel joint of the discs to each other, made in the form of two upper and lower ball-and-socket hinge-shaped I-beam keys arranged with a gap in the T-shaped grooves in the discs, with the possibility of disc movement relative to each other on the SH and self-adjustment of the wedge disks in the SS of the case. SH located between the disks of the wedge is made in the form of bushings-lenses installed into the recesses of disks, one of which is made with a convex spherical surface, and the other with a concave spherical surface.
