FIELD: internal combustion engines.

SUBSTANCE: described are methods for monitoring the operation of the SCR catalyst and an engine system with an SCR system including NOx sensors upstream and downstream of the catalyst. One of the methods comprises monitoring SCR performance via calculating SCR conversion efficiency at different catalyst temperatures. Further, feed-gas NOx levels are artificially increased when SCR device temperature is above a threshold to obtain more reliable readings from NOx sensors.

EFFECT: invention relates to the purification of internal combustion engine exhaust gases.
