FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: method of engine operation includes automated diversion of water from the diesel fuel system to the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system in response to EGR flow threshold exceedance. EGR quantity adjustment is performed in response to water introduced from the diesel fuel system. Engine operation method option and engine system are disclosed.
EFFECT: invention reduces the amount of exhaust gas passing through the EGR valve, and ensures maintaining of the desired temperature of the catalytic converter and exhaust gas neutralization ratio in the catalytic converter.
