SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in internal combustion engines. Method for reducing vehicle emissions includes, under a first condition, decreasing an exhaust gas recirculation amount of a total cylinder charge in response to engine out NOx levels being below a first threshold and increasing exhaust gas recirculation amount of total cylinder charge in response to engine output NOx levels being above a second threshold. First threshold is lower than second threshold. Under a second condition, maintaining exhaust gas recirculation amount of total cylinder charge even when NOx levels are below first threshold. Invention discloses a version of a method of reducing vehicle emissions and system for reduction of vehicle emissions.

EFFECT: technical result is reduction of vehicle engine emissions.
