SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to oral care compositions and methods for using thereof. Oral care composition comprising peroxodisulfate sodium as a bleaching agent is provided; and methyl ethyl ketone. Composition is an aqueous composition in which a peroxodisulfate bleaching agent is present in a concentration of 0.01 M to 0.05 M and methyl ethyl ketone is present in the composition at a concentration of 0.01 M to 0.05 M; and wherein the molar ratio of peroxodisulfate bleaching agent to methyl ethyl ketone is from 0.5:1 to 1:0.5. Method for whitening a tooth is also provided, comprising applying the composition to the surface of a mammal's teeth. Composition is stable for long-term storage and remains effective in cleaning and whitening the teeth.

EFFECT: use of a combination of sodium peroxodisulfate and methyl ethyl ketone provides a significant increase in bleaching compared to an equivalent amount of hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent.
