FIELD: engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines. Method for engine (10) comprises estimating an ambient humidity using a humidity sensor at the inlet while learning a reference point for an intake oxygen sensor at a reference intake pressure. Reference point corresponds to the oxygen sensor reading when there is no exhaust gas recirculation. Learned reference point is corrected on the basis of the estimated ambient humidity. Opening of the EGR valve is adjusted based on the correction. Version of the method for the engine and an engine system are disclosed.

EFFECT: technical result consists in a more accurate determination of an oxygen sensor reference point.
