FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. In the method, hydromagnesite is produced in an aqueous medium by the interaction of gaseous CO2 or carbonate-containing ions with magnesium hydroxide, obtained by quenching the source of magnesium oxide. Then, the resulting aqueous suspension of the precipitated nesquehonite is subjected to thermal aging.
EFFECT: hydromagnesite has lamellar morphology in combination with a low average particle size and is used as minerals, fillers and pigments in the paper, paint and varnish, rubber and plastics industries, as well as a flame retardant.
