FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: claimed invention relates to method of obtaining hydromagneside in water medium. Method includes the following stages: a) provision of, at least, one source of magnesium oxide; b) provision of gaseous CO2 and/or carbonate-containing anions; c) slaking of said source of magnesium oxide from stage a) to convert magnesium oxide, at least, partially, into magnesium hydroxide; d) bringing obtained magnesium hydroxide from stage c) in contact with said gaseous CO2 and/or carbonate-containing anions from stage b) to convert magnesium hydroxide, at least, partially, into precipitated nesquehonite; and e) processing obtained at stage d) precipitated nesquehonite at the stage of heat ageing. Precipitated nesquehonite, obtained at stage d) is crushed before the stage of heat ageing, performed at stage e). Also claimed are: hydromagneside and its application as coating for paper, as mineral filler for paper, and as fire-protective composition.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain hydromagneside, which has special lamellar morphology in combination with reduced size of particles and high degree of whiteness.
