SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to a bumper and a bumper assembly. Bumper includes a carrier element having a wall extending along the longitudinal side, and the first shelf and the second shelf extending away from the wall in the first direction. Plurality of ridges are movably attached to the carrier between the first shelf and the second shelf and are spaced apart along the longitudinal axis.
EFFECT: ridges can be moved into the actuated position to reinforce the bumper to improve the bumper's damageability at low speeds, and can move to an inoperative position, which can provide the liner with the ability to deform more easily with respect to the actuated position in order to provide energy absorption for impacts when colliding with a pedestrian.
