FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely pediatrics, and can be used for the differential diagnosis of bacterial and viral intestinal infections in young children. To do this, a study is made of the serum level of neopterin. Level of neopterin above 10 nmol/l indicates a bacterial or viral intestinal infection. Level of neopterin above 25 nmol/l increases the probability of bacterial diarrhea development by a factor of 3.1. At neopterin values from 10.49 to 16.2 nmol/l, a viral enteric infection is diagnosed. And for neopterin values from 22.54 to 35.52 nmol/l, a bacterial intestinal infection is diagnosed.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the accuracy of diagnosis of bacterial and viral intestinal infection in young children.
