FIELD: analytical chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry as applied to the determination of the total content of the same type of organic compounds, in particular hydrocarbons. Method comprises sampling, hydrocarbon extraction, sorption purification of the extract and chromatographic analysis of the extract, characterized in that, during the chromatographic analysis, the presence of the peaks of C6-C9 arenes, the total area of the identified peaks is measured (SAr), and then the total content of these arenas in the extract is calculated (CAr) by the formula CAr = SAr / k, where the coefficient k is found from the calibration dependence of the form (SAr)i = k (CAr)i, where (SAr)i – the total area of C6-C9 arenes on the chromatogram of the i-th model mixture, a (CAr)i – the total content of C6-C9 arenes in the i-th model mixture.

EFFECT: higher accuracy and reliability of analysis is achieved.
