FIELD: soil or rock drilling; mining.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drilling wells and can be used to determine the distance between wells. In particular, a method for downhole ranging is proposed, comprising: placing a first magnetic dipole in a first wellbore; placing a triaxial magnetic dipole in a second wellbore; obtaining a first measurement of a magnetic field propagating between the first and second wellbores, wherein the magnetic field has a natural form; calculating the direction of said first measurement of the magnetic field based on the natural form of the magnetic field; and positioning the bottom hole assembly, based on the path trajectory. Moreover, the natural form of the magnetic field determines the trajectory of the path using which the bottom hole assembly is positioned, and calculating the distance between the first and second wellbores based on the amplitude of the first measurement of the magnetic field.
EFFECT: technical result is to improve the accuracy and reliability of the positioning of the well relative to another well.
