SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the emergency protection of nuclear power plants, in particular to technologies for reducing the consequences or preventing fires and preventing the accumulation of explosive gases, that provides hydrogen explosion safety in areas with the containment shell (CS) of the nuclear power plants (NPPs) with water-to-water power reactor (WWPR). Method of ensuring hydrogen explosion safety of the nuclear power plant includes ventilation of the containment rooms of the nuclear reactor and hydrogen recombination in the containment areas of the nuclear reactor by catalytic oxidation. In this case, a reflector is placed in the way of the potentially accidental propagation of the pressure hydrogen-containing vapor-gas jet in the containment rooms, openings in the walls between the containment rooms of the nuclear reactor are made with a size of at least 35 % of the area of these walls, and in places of potential localization of the foci of combustion of a hydrogen-containing vapor-gas mixture, excess heat is discharged.

EFFECT: ensuring a lowering of the possibility of igniting the gaseous environment in the premises of a nuclear power plant, as well as the creation of self-extinguishing of weak combustion waves.
