FIELD: accident protection of fire-hazard installations such as nuclear power plants with water-cooled reactors of all types. SUBSTANCE: system designed for instance to prevent destruction of nuclear reactor containment on occurrence of accident has solid gas-producing material capable of releasing inert gas when coming in contact with hot steam-air medium. This material is placed in casing inside water-cooled reactor containment. Casing is pressurized and has inert gas vent. Gas vent is provided with bursting disk whose burst pressure does not exceed gage pressure built up within containment during emergency depressurization of nuclear power unit and/or by shutoff device. The latter is controlled by facility disposed outside of containment. Solid material that releases carbon dioxide in wetting is chosen for gas generation. Casing may be provided with moving doors forming grab or collet. Intake can in the form of pan is placed under casing. EFFECT: reduced depressurization capability of reactor containment in case of accident. 12 cl
