FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of iron salts from organic acids, in particular to ferrous salt from formic acid. Process for the preparation of iron (II) formate is provided, comprising heating an iron compound and formic acid in the presence of a metal shavings, wherein heating of the carbonyl iron or iron nitrate and 20–25 % formic acid is carried out in two stages: I stage – at a temperature of 75–80 °C to obtain a crystalline precipitate; II stage – at a temperature of 50–55 °C to obtain a dry residue, while as the metal shavings, iron shavings are used previously placed in 20–25 % formic acid, taken in an amount of 60–70 % by weight of the chips, and the iron shavings are introduced before the second heating stage, and then the excessively introduced chips are removed with a magnet.

EFFECT: apparatus and a technologically simple method for the preparation of iron (II) formate is proposed.
