SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Chlorine dioxide generation unit comprises a section with an agent storage volume and at least two parts with a radiation source. Part with the radiation source is designed to generate radiation with wavelengths in the visible region of the spectrum. Section with the agent storage volume contains an agent comprising a solid chlorite. Solid chlorite contains a porous substance that bears chlorite, and a metal or non-metal catalyst in a ratio of 1:0.04–0.8. In the section with the agent storage volume there are one or more openings so that air can enter and exit the section with the agent storage volume. Gaseous chlorine dioxide is generated by irradiating the agent in the section with the agent storage volume with visible light.
EFFECT: present invention provides a unit for generating chlorine dioxide, which can release a sufficient amount of chlorine dioxide for an extended period of time with small dimensions of the unit.
