FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of faults in a thermoelectric generator, which contains a module (14) of thermoelectric converters, including as a set of thermoelectric converters (12) a set of semiconductor single crystals, in which the band gap in part of its own semiconductor (12c) is less than the width of the band gap in part (12a) of an n-type semiconductor and part (12b) of a p-type semiconductor. A fault detection device (40) performs fault detection in power generator (10) for each converter. During this fault detection process, temperatures (Ti, Tn, Tp) are measured or estimated at three points of the thermoelectric converter (12). Based on the measured or estimated temperatures (Ti, Tn, Tp), the estimated electromotive force (Vte) is calculated at three points. It is believed that malfunction of power generator (10) is detected when the difference absolute value of calculated electromotive force (Vte) and the actual electromotive force (Vta) is greater than or equal to the threshold value.

EFFECT: method for detecting faults in a thermoelectric generator is proposed.
