SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry and discloses a method for producing furacilin. Method involves condensing 5-nitrofurfurol with a semicarbazide base prepared by condensation of hydrazine hydrate and urea. In the preparation of the semicarbazide base, sulfuric acid is added to the reaction mass before being diluted with water and cooled to obtain a pH of the reaction mass in the range 3.5–4.5, while a solution of water and sulfuric acid with a percentage of sulfuric acid in a solution of 4–9 % is used to condense 5-nitrofurfurol with semicarbazide base.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain furacilin of compendial grade.
