FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy and can be used to purify technical silicon obtained by reduction melting in ore-thermal electric furnaces. Method of refining technical silicon involves blowing the melt from the furnace into the ladle during pouring until it is filled with compressed air through the porous bottom of the ladle with a continuous and uniform supply of flux to the melt surface. After filling the ladle, rock salt is fed to the surface of the melt and, through the graphite lance immersed in the silicon melt from above, the melt is purged with compressed air, moreover, the amount of compressed air through the graphite lance is equal to the amount of air supplied through the porous bottom of the ladle.
EFFECT: invention allows to improve the quality of technical silicon by reducing the content of iron in it.
