FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: present group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to therapy and otolaryngology, and concerns the treatment of nasal congestion. For this purpose, a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a drug-resin complex comprising phenylephrine and a cation polystyrene sulfonate, and a single-layer coating, is administrated. Wherein said cation polystyrene sulfonate comprises particle sizes of 74 mcm to 177 mcm prior to being combined with the phenylephrine, wherein at least about 90 % of the particles have particle sizes of 74 mcm to 177 mcm. Single-layer coating on the specified complex ranges from 30 to 45 wt. % compared to the weight of the pharmaceutical formulation, and includes from 65 to 85 % cellulose acetate.
EFFECT: such a formulation allows relieving nasal congestion for at least 8 hours due to prolonged maintenance of a high concentration of phenylephrine in the plasma.
