SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of predictive decoding of a motion vector. Method for predictive decoding of a motion vector used in motion compensated prediction for reconstructing a video sequence comprises: a step of determining a first variant of a motion vector predictor, which satisfies a predefined criterion used in determining variants of motion vector predictors from a motion vector or motion vectors of one or more fragments, belonging to the adjacent left region located to the left of the target fragment in the frame image of the decoding target; step of determining a second variant of a motion vector predictor that satisfies a predetermined criterion used to determine variants of motion vector predictors, from the motion vector or motion vectors of one or more fragments belonging to a region adjacent above, located above the target fragment; step of decoding encoded data for recovering motion vector predictor indicator information indicative of a motion vector predictor for a target fragment; and step of selecting a motion vector predictor indicated in the motion vector predictor indicator information from one or more variants of motion vector predictors including at least a first variant of a motion vector predictor and a second variant of a motion vector predictor.
EFFECT: reducing the computational complexity required to determine the predictors of motion vectors.
