FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pre-coding based on a codebook, and in particular, to pre-coding a transmission from a one-dimensional antenna array. Transmitting radio node (10) pre-encodes the transmission from one-dimensional antenna array (12) to receiving radio node (50). Array (12) includes co-polarized antenna elements (14) aligned on a single line in a single spatial dimension of the array. Transmitting radio node (10) pre-encodes the transmission from each individual sublattice (34a, 34b) of antenna elements (14) using a pre-encoder with a low level of detail, which factorizes from a precoder with multiple levels of detail, intended for a given spatial dimension of array (12) at different levels of detail, in order to virtualize the sublattices (34a, 34b) as various auxiliary elements (38a, 38b). Transmitting radio node (10) also precodes the transmission from various auxiliary elements (38a, 38b) using one or more precoders with a higher level of detail, which also factorizes from a precoder with multiple levels of detail. In this case, low-detail precoders and one or more higher-level precoders are represented in one or more codebooks (26) used for the said pre-coding.

EFFECT: invention provides a reduction in the costs associated with pre-coding with feedback, due to the ability of the codebook to flexibly adapt to different propagation media.
