FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering, in particular to the measurement of the humidity of external air by means of an exhaust gas sensor. Engine control method comprises the following steps: selectively shutting off a first group of cylinders, while leaving a second group of cylinders on. Reference voltage of the first exhaust sensor, installed behind the first group of cylinders, is modulated between a first lower voltage and a second higher voltage. Humidity of the external air is calculated based on the output signal generated by said first sensor in response to said modulation. Operating parameter of the engine for the second group of cylinders is adjusted based on the calculated humidity of the external air, under the first condition, while said first group of cylinders is disconnected, the first voltage is applied to the second exhaust gas sensor, which is installed behind the activated second group of cylinders, and not to said first exhaust gas sensor. Ratio of fuel and exhaust air is calculated based on the output signal of the second sensor. Fuel injection into said second group of cylinders is adjusted based on the calculated ratio of fuel and exhaust air. Also disclosed is a version of the engine control method and engine system.
