SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to diagnostics of an internal combustion engine. Various methods of engine operation in case of gear shifting in conditions of fuel cutoff are proposed. In compliance with one of the implementation examples, the internal combustion engine operation method includes disconnection of at least one of the engine cylinders, diagnosing during at least one disconnected engine cylinder and operation of the engine with high load, prediction of gear shifting and reduction of load on engine to the level lower than high load, and diagnostics termination in case of predicted gear shifting.

EFFECT: high accuracy of controlling engine by measuring ambient humidity during movement of vehicle.
