SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of navigation, namely to the methods and devices for measuring a ship’s absolute speed. In the Doppler lag functioning according to the "Janus" scheme, the direction and speed of the vertical movement of the vessel at the time of radiation of the probing signals and at the time of detection of the echo signals reflected from the bottom, which are taken into account when calculating the speed of the vessel, are additionally measured.

EFFECT: improving the accuracy of measuring the speed of a vessel using the Doppler lag in the conditions of the vertical movement of such vessel.
