FIELD: fiber optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fiber optics. Fiber includes a core and a reflective sheath of quartz glass coated with a tin coating. Tin coating is modified by bismuth in proportion Bi100-xSnx, where x=99.5±0.05 wt. %. Thickness of the stabilized tin coating is preferably from 20 to 60 microns for an optical fiber with a diameter of 125 to 480 microns and from 40 to 80 microns for an optical fiber with a diameter of 500 to 1,200 microns.
EFFECT: production of optical fiber with durable tin-free coating without major defects, capable of long-term operation in various temperature conditions in a wide range from -50 to +200 °C.
