FIELD: chemical or physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and method for improving the accuracy of coating a ceramic or metallic honeycomb element, commonly used as a catalytic converter in an automobile exhaust system. Device for coating a liquid suspension intended for this purpose onto substrates intended for the manufacture of catalytic converters of exhaust gases, in particular for motor vehicles, which are cylindrical carrier bodies and having two end surfaces, the side surface, the axial length L and the plurality of channels extending from the first end surface to the second end surface, contains a coating chamber configured to be installed into it from above and hermetically attaching the substrate to it and with the possibility of entering into it from below the suspension for coating. Device also comprises a system for monitoring the height of the suspension surface inside the chamber by measuring a variable, including at least the first and second sensors installed in the coating chamber at the same height, and one sensor located in the chamber below them. System is configured to measure a variable value separately by means of a downstream sensor and by means of at least the first and second sensors and to compare measured values of the variable value with each other. Use of a device for coating substrates intended for the manufacture of catalytic converters of exhaust gases, in particular for motor vehicles, is carried out by mounting a cylindrical carrier body with two end surfaces on the device, a side surface, an axial length L, and a plurality of channels extending from the first end surface to the second end surface. In addition, hermetically attach the carrier to the device. Coating suspension is pumped into the coating chamber from the bottom, measuring a variable by means of sensors, and signals that the conditions have been fulfilled or that the coating has not been fulfilled.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to provide a direct check whether the suspension in the respective chamber is ready for coating the monolithic carrier, or it must be replaced before coating the monolithic carrier.
