SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a device and a method of detecting traffic lights. Device implementing the method comprises a traffic light position estimator estimating the relative position of the traffic light relative to the vehicle based on the cartographic information, the first, second and third detection regions setting units, as well as a traffic light detection unit. Unit for setting the first detection area sets the first detection area on the image for each traffic light, predicted to be present on the image. Unit for setting the second detection region sets, when it is predicted that a set of traffic lights is present on the image, a second detection area, which includes a plurality of predicted traffic lights on the image. Third detection area setting unit sets the third detection area by means of correction of the first detection area based on the probable signal lights of traffic lights detected from the second detection area. Traffic lights detection unit detects traffic lights from the third detection area.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of traffic lights detection.
