FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing low density polyethylene. Method of polymerization or copolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers is carried out at a pressure of 110–500 MPa and a temperature of 100–350 °C in the production line. Production line contains a continuous polymerization reactor installed inside a protective casing. Production line is monitored for the appearance of monomer leakage or reaction mixture. When a monomer or a reaction mixture is detected, the aqueous drencher system delivers drops of 25 mcm to 20 mm in diameter to the closed space and starts automatically with a minimum flow rate of 10 l/min for each m2 of enclosed area.

EFFECT: fast and effective control of the leakage of monomers or of the reaction mixture in a high pressure polymerization unit in an enclosed area.
