FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a three-way catalytic converter for reducing the amount of toxic components of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines operating on gasoline, as well as to a method for reducing exhaust emissions. Neutralizer contains one or several adjacent carrier shells with a catalytically active coating, which has a nonuniform distribution of oxygen storage capacity in the direction of the flow of exhaust gases, while at its output end there is no oxygen-accumulating material and this part has a relative volume in the whole of the converter from 5 to 50 %.
EFFECT: invention provides a temperature stability of the neutralizer and a reduction in the amount of the main toxic components in the exhaust gases.
