FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: proposed is a method of extracting nucleic acids from a polymer that is malleable within a living organism, method of detecting a microorganism adhered or entrapped to the polymer malleable within a living organism, method of identifying malleable polymers resistant to adherence of a microorganism, method of generating a microbe profile of the oral cavity of a mammalian subject and an in vitro method of diagnosing an infection in the oral cavity of a mammal and determining the susceptibility of a mammal for developing an infection in the oral cavity. Said methods include contacting the polymer with chloroform and a buffer solution, extracting chloroform from the buffer solution, where the extracted nucleic acids are in the buffer solution.
EFFECT: invention provides for the detection, identification and quantification of microorganisms adhered or entrapped to the polymer malleable within a living organism.
