FIELD: nuclear engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering, namely to the design of fast-neutron nuclear reactors operating in the subcritical mode, designed for decentralized power supply. Subcritical nuclear reactor consists of a core containing nuclear fuel in the form of nuclides with heavy nuclei and a source of fast neutrons with a kinetic energy on a large scale more than 1 MeV. Mass of nuclear fuel is less than the critical mass, which ensures the maintenance of a chain reaction in a fissile material. Initial nuclear fuel is natural uranium, containing predominantly 23892U isotope, or natural thorium, containing predominantly 23290Th isotope. Thickness of the layer of nuclear fuel in the direction of emission of neutrons from the source is at least 0.1 m, and the active zone is surrounded by a reflector.
EFFECT: providing power supply to areas with compact living of people with safe devices for generating electricity with minimal losses to transport it.
