SUBSTANCE: invention relates to power plant engineering. A method for controlling a charging level of a pneumatic accumulator of a free piston energy module with an external combustion chamber comprising a pneumatic accumulator, an external combustion chamber, a control system and an air bypass valve, in accordance with the invention at the time, when the air pressure in the pneumatic accumulator reaches a value providing a specified excess air ratio of fuel combustion in the external combustion chamber, the control system sets the air bypass valve to an open position.
EFFECT: invention provides a level of charge of the pneumatic accumulator, which provides a specified excess air ratio in the combustion of fuel in the external combustion chamber.
