FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing furfuryl alcohol by selective hydrogenation of furfural, which consists in hydrogenating furfural in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst, where the used catalyst contains: 5.0–40.0 wt. % CuO; carrier – the rest; while the carrier contains spinel with the structure of Fe3O4, consisting of 40–85 wt. % Fe2O3; 10–20 wt. % Al2O3 from the total mass of the catalyst, process is carried out on a periodic operation at the temperature of 100 °C, hydrogen pressure of 6.0 MPa in the presence of a solvent with the volume ratio of furfural/isopropanol 0.1 or on the installation of flow type in the absence of solvent at the temperature of 120–160 °C, a hydrogen pressure of 4.0–6.0 MPa, feed rates of 2–4 ml/h and the flow rate of hydrogen of 100–300 ml/min. At the same time, the used catalyst, before carrying out selective hydrogenation of furfural, is reduced in a stream of hydrogen supplied at the rate of 300 ml/min, at the temperature of 200–300 °C, pressure 0.1 MPa for 1 hour.
EFFECT: obtaining furfuryl alcohol with the yield of over 95 % with selective hydrogenation of furfural with the conversion of more than 98 %.
