FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2-methylfuran by selective hydrogenation of furan derivatives – furfural and/or furfuryl alcohol. Method involves hydrogenation of furfural and/or furfuryl alcohol in the presence of catalyst containing 15 wt% molybdenum carbide modified with nickel metal with molar ratio Ni/Mo from 0.1 to 0.5, the rest is carbon carrier of Sibunit type, hydrogenation is carried out in a batch plant at temperature of 150 °C, a hydrogen pressure of 6.0 MPa, a stirring speed of 1,800 rpm, reaction time of 4 hours using a solution with volumetric content of furfural or furfuryl alcohol in isopropanol of 3.5 vol% or in a flow type plant in the absence of a solvent at temperature of 160–200 °C, hydrogen pressure of 5.0 MPa, feed rate of 3–6 ml/h and hydrogen flow rate of 300–600 ml/min in the presence of said catalyst.
EFFECT: novel method of producing 2-methylfuran with high output in selective hydrogenation of furfural and/or furfuryl alcohol; obtained 2-methylfuran can be used to increase octane number of gasoline.
