FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an additive composition for controlling and inhibiting the polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers. Improved amine-based additive composition is described to control and inhibit the polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers, including styrene, containing: (A) one or more quinone methides or derivatives thereof (QM), (B) one or more phenolic compounds, and the above composition is characterized in that it further comprises: (C) at least one amine, including an aliphatic tertiary amine, containing an -OH group in the alkyl chain; moreover, the quinone methid or its derivatives (QM) include benzyl quinone methide, preferably 4-benzylidene-2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dienone; moreover, the phenolic compound contains 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol (2,6-DTBP), butylated hydroxyanisol (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) or a mixture thereof, wherein the aliphatic tertiary amine includes triisopropanolamine or tris(2-hydroxypropyl)amine (TIPA), N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (THEED), N,N,N',N'tetrakis(2-hydroxypropyl)ethylenediamine (Quadrol®) or their mixture. Method of using the above additive composition for controlling and inhibiting the polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers, including styrene, is described, the method comprising treating the vinyl aromatic monomers with the above-mentioned additive composition. Method for controlling and inhibiting the polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers is also described, comprising adding the aforementioned additive composition to a stream containing vinyl aromatic monomers.
EFFECT: obtaining a composition with improved inhibition efficacy, containing a reduced amount of quinon methid and a phenolic compound.
