SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering for recovering data from a radiation detector affected by pulse pile-up. Technical result is achieved by receiving detector output data; converting detector output data to form stepped data; detecting a signal based on the stepped data and estimating a parameter associated with one or more signals; wherein the detector output data comprise a plurality of samples and a signal, and wherein the conversion of the detector output data is based on the conversion of the signal into a converted signal, wherein the conversion of the signal into the converted signal includes: simulating the signal based on a variable leading edge and a variable trailing edge; converting the variable leading edge so that the rise time of the signal is essentially zero; converting the variable trailing edge so that the signal decay time is essentially infinite; and wherein the estimated parameter is one or more of signal energy or signal arrival time.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of real-time estimation of incoming radiation detection event parameters.
